I read this book 8 years ago before I was about to join the New York City police academy it was a fantastic amazing in-depth read, i could not put it down from the first page I read and most of the stories that Were told in the book from one officer held true! From the beginning of the academy to the first day he was on patrol to real life job situations he went on I will never forget this book and highly recommend it to anyone who has future aspirations of joining the police department anywhere! The way he described the' Fishbowl effect 'certainly holds true to this day we are in the public spotlight The minute we put on the uniform most people do not understand what we go through doing this highly rewarding but also highly stressful job of serving the public

This book is well written and easy to follow. I was going to start the police academy so i bought this book to get an insiders look on things. It has a lot of great info and is right on with how the entire process works and what to expect. Ive read this book three times and every once in a while I pick it up just to read a chapter or one of the authors real life stories. This book is perfect for someone that is going to be a police officer, for someone that wants to know how officers think or if your a vet and want to remember the good old days. I recommend this book!!
